When  joined Schuman Associates in 2008 as an Africa specialist, only one other person in the Brussels consultancy dealt with the region. “Now almost all of my colleagues have an African dimension in their job,” he says. “I'm happy about that, and I see more and more companies in Brussels, either consultancies or legal firms, investment companies or banks, taking an interest in Africa.”

While he admits that he misses being in Africa, he enjoys the wider perspective of his current role. “I want to be able to say I've changed something in Africa, and for that Brussels is a good place to be, to see what is happening and to act.”
