Get ready for 2017 European Week of Regions and Cities

European Week of Regions and Cities (so called Open Days) is an annual four-day event in Brussels during which cities and regions showcase their capacity to create growth and jobs, implement the European Union cohesion policy (EU funding), and prove the importance of the local and regional level for good European governance.

Each year the Committee of Regions as main institutional organizer selects different themes for event: around 100 workshops, debates and meetings in Brussels prepared by over 200 partners and attended by approximately 6,000 participants.

Many of the workshops are focused on the most important matters like: Digital Agenda, SME support, low-carbon economy, social inclusion or urban & rural dimension.

2017 edition with slogan ‘Regions and Cities Working for a Better Future’ will take place on 9-12 October 2017 in Brussels.

The Committee of Regions has selected 3 main themes:

  1. Building Resilient Regions and Cities

- Policy responses at the EU/national level on the effect of the globalization

- How to promote new activities and investments and make cities more resilient

  1. Regions and Cities as change agents

-   Review of the regional and urban policies post-2020

-   Illustrate the contribution of the regions and cities to the European project

-   How to respond to the challenged to automation, migrant integration

  1. Sharing knowledge to deliver results

-   Exchange of best practices from the 2014-2020, in particular on: simplification and strengthening  of the institutions and administrative building

Deadline for submission of event applications is 31 March 2017.
