Dr Michael Froneberg

Dr. Michael Froneberg is Head of EU and NATO Relations at KNDS Germany, a position he has held since January 2023. In this role, he is responsible for managing the KNDS’ engagement with European and transatlantic institutions, contributing to discussions on defence policy, capability development and industrial cooperation with the European Union and NATO.

Before joining KNDS, Dr. Froneberg served in the German Federal Ministry of Defence, most recently in the Medical Service Department, where he worked on issues related to military medical capabilities and defence policy. Earlier, he also gained experience in the German Parliament as Senior Advisor on military and security policy for the parliamentary group of Alliance 90/The Greens when the war in Ukraine began.

Prior to his policy roles, Dr. Froneberg spent the majority of his career in the Bundeswehr, holding a range of operational and medical positions. His assignments included serving as a general staff officer, commander of a mobile operations medical company and brigade surgeon, gaining extensive experience in military operations and medical support within the armed forces.

Dr. Froneberg holds a medical degree from Ulm University and a Master’s degree in Disaster Medicine from the Università degli Studi del Piemonte Orientale.
