On 13 November, the Nickel Institute and the Surface Engineering Association organised a breakfast briefing with the support of Schuman Associates on the topic of "EU 2020 and Industrial Competitiveness: SMEs in the Surface Engineering Sector" in the European Parliament in Brussels.

Jan Dröge, Partner at Schuman Associates, moderated the last EU Sector Seminar “Energy Sector in EU External Aid Programmes”, which took place on 27th November. The Seminar, organized by the UK Perm Rep gathered delegates from Permanent Representations, Trade Promotion Organizations from EU Member States and over 100 companies from private sector. Key note speech wias given by Roberto Ridolfi, Director for Sustainable Growth and Development at DG DEVCO.

On 12th November, Schuman Associates organized EU-Africa Breakfast Briefing "Engaging the Private Sector for EU support to Africa" with Nick Westcott, Managing Director Africa, External Action Service (EEAS) and Roberto Ridolfi, Director for Sustainable Growth and Development at European Commission, DG Development and Cooperation (DG DEVCO).

Schuman Associates participated in the Surface Engineering Gala Dinner and Awards 2014, the biennial event that recognizes, rewards and celebrates excellence in all branches of surface finishing in the U.K. The prestigious awards ceremony was hosted by Lord Hoyle and Mr. Dave Elliott, CEO of the Surface Engineering Association (SEA) and President of the European Committee for Surface Treatment (CETS).

Gerard McNamara, CEO of Schuman Associates,  will be a Judge in the selection panel of The National Procurement Awards.  Judging for the Awards is under the auspices of the Irish Institute of Purchasing and Material Management, the longest established and largest Institute of procurement professionals in Ireland.

Schuman Associates organized a workshop in the framework of The OPEN DAYS – European Week of  Regions and Cities 2014.

Brussels has been buzzing all week with the expected news of the Commissioners designate and their portfolios. Despite earlier ‘leaks’ the eventual official announcement by Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker brought some surprises. Dr. Fiona Murray, Partner at Schuman Associates has contributed to the PubAffairs "Week in Brussels" with her analysis of Novelties and Challenges for the New Commission.

The Irish Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade launched a report prepared by Schuman Associates on business potential for Irish Companies in Africa focused on four sectors: energy & renewable energy, infrastructure, water and mining.
